Watching television has been quite educational and revealing for the past week or so. My life has been severely impacted by scandalous pieces of nonsensical trivia that i never did or never would have known or cared about if it wasn't for certain Eminent Personalities. I was safe with the notion and the knowledge that as far i knew, i was an ordinary Indian Joe. Typically your average neighborhood lout who people thought were crazy and neighbors wanted nothing to do with you and kept their sons, daughters, friends and pets away from. A totally normal life.
Along comes somebody from the higher echelons of establishment and shattered my peace and probably my typecast, stereotyped identity. Indian Joe became a Mango Man in a Banana Republic. All conventions of normality shattered by a man who looks like a poor imitation of Andy Serkis from Planet of the Apes.
I shall refrain from mentioning names here because I am sick of having heard these names a gazillion times over the last week and shall continue to for weeks to come. Still for the unfortunately blessed individuals who don't know, im talking about Arvind Kejriwal a.k.a Neo, Robert Vadra a.k.a Housemonkey, Nitin Gadkari a.k.a The Bulk, Salman Khurshid a.k.a Oxford Bloom and Sonia Gandhi a.k.a Mother.
I don't like to be reminded day in and day out by a man i did not know, would not have known and now that i do, dont want to know, that I need to wake up and fight because Housemonkey called Neo a Mango Man in a banana republic. It probably had something to do with the fact that Neo had 'Main Aam Aadmi Hoon' Printed on the cap that he so much likes to wear on his head like a crown. Literally translated it means Neo has ' I am a Mango Man ' on his crown. This was enough to rattle his cage and what transpired following the comment is the crap we are seeing on TV right now.
Till the recent past, nobody knew who this man with a crown and an ever present frown was. Ill give it to the man though, well educated, been in the service, has an innocent face, is of average height and a moderate mustache. I salute his intentions in their entirety. Wholeheartedly. I did too even when he was with the Fasting Pseudo Shaolin, Fake Fasting, Tree Hugging, Bhajan Singing Monk, Anna Hazare. He knew he would never be able to go Ape (pun intended) if he was under the Monk's shadow. And boy has he blossomed.
Corruption is definitely a plague and a plague needs to be eradicated. This needs to be done with absolute stringency and with absolute malice. I would definitely agree that this disease has reached epidemic and even pandemic levels now. It's taken the form of a malignant cancer that no form of chemotherapy short of a nuclear blast can cure. Its present right at the molecular level.
Sometimes, I sit and wonder if i ever dissected a so called corrupt politicians DNA, I would surely have come across some rabid form of mutation that is tuned to an affinity for currency of all sorts and denominations. I hold myself responsible for this mess because i voted for all those idiots in the first place. I pay their salaries, tolerate their whims, fund the extravagance, fuel the habit, turn the other cheek, turn a blind eye, fall if pushed and finally grovel if threatened. Now, a man with a superhero complex with an ideology of his own wants to fight the naysayers and everybody wakes up. So much for having a mind of your own.
IAC , or India Against Corruption is only as good as its name. Just the idea. Execution is where it is lacking, has been and shall continue to because the captains of the cruise-liner called the IAC are yet to decide which port they need to dock in. Right now it seems to be any port in a shit storm and the whole country is playing tag. This is a man who aims to bring his party to power in the oh so near future* ( Conditions Apply. The Mayans and the rest of the world says were fucked. Life expires on the 21st of December so good luck) and rule the nation of 1.3 billion. Nobody knows what his agenda is if he attains power and what his policies both Foreign and Domestic are going to be. Nobody knows his views on human rights and what IAC.s code is. Everything is based on an ideological manifesto that looks and sounds as good as the Menu in your favourite restaurant.
Housemonkey is now in an identity crisis of his own because he himself is part of a family that has based its legacy as a borrowed if not fake identity. ( Gandhi , The Original One, Must still be wondering in his grave how his name got tagged to this bunch ) The man is so mired in confusion he might find it hard to believe he is crapping on a toilet seat in banana republic.
On the other hand, our Oxford Bloom excuse of an educated man spews rhetoric like a man expected to when he realizes his roots. You can take the man out of the village but you cant take the village out of the man. I have nothing against villages, my ancestors were vilagers, so were my parents and id like to settle in one before i die. The man has been so hurt apparently by allegations of corruption, he actually believes his pedigree of a foreign education exonerate him of all evil. What a bunch of shit.
The media is only too happy to oblige. Watching news channels nowadays is fun. I sit around betting money with myself trying to catch the actual news tit-bits among all the advertisements on the news channels. They even have timers telling you what time the news is going to be back on air!!! How exciting. Add to the mix some really hilariously serious anchors with such a convincingly fake seriousness about them, you cant help but feel sorry for the poor blokes and ladies. I miss Dorrdarshan and DD News. Those guys called a spade a spade. And they didn care if people mocked them or turned the TV off. Some honorable mentions on my favorite List are:
1. Arnab Goswami : This man is the epitome of the self appointed, self anointed, unwanted savior of the masses. Full marks to him for believing he actually is.
2. Rahul Kanwal : The less said about him the better
3. Suhasini Haider : She looks like she really has come to realize that the job is not what she had thought it would be and now is just mere eye candy to keep you occupied whenever the news plays between commercials.
There is an honor roll and i wont even mention the rest because i don't really care. The prophets of change have now mutated the whole concept and made it a carnival.
Mango Man i may be, but I ain't ignorant. Neither are the millions like me. To everyone involved in this circus, don't underestimate the silence of the Mango Men and women. This even to the Alleged Mango Man. This is your time. Make your noise and make as much of it as you can. Its Diwali soon anyway. Even you will be gone from memory. The people are not that easily swayed and they don't forget easily. People of the higher echelon don't realize that they have probably already sowed the seeds of redemption. Not theirs, ours.
Stop playing the same shit over and over again. Its lame and old. The same faces meandering through the same listless debates hurling the same abuses and leading to the same outcomes. Its worse than reality TV. That was the benchmark for incompetence and desperation. There once was an idea called Utopia and it used to mean something to a lot of good people. Don't let the idea get sullied by uncouth and dumb so called well educated individuals. The moral fabric of society unfortunately is fragile and can be swayed either way. Thank god for this nonsense, its swaying more towards positive change.
Lastly, to all the pundits, newscasters, politicians, IAC, and all other Eminent people involved. Put a cork in it. If it offends you , i care two shits about it. Sue me. That seems to be the trend anyways. Else, Bite me....
